The Chief Engineer directs and coordinates installation, maintenance and repair of studio, transmitting and ancillary equipment to maintain competitive signals in the market while complying with all FCC technical requirements. Includes responsibility for telecommunications, computer and networking systems, and transmitter site facilities maintenance. General responsibilities : Maintain a 6-studio radio broadcast operation based on AoIP architecture Install and perform maintenance on control consoles, audio routers, recording equipment, microphones, digital audio equipment, etc. Maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of RF transmitter sites for 4 100kW ERP class C FM stations, 1 5kW AM station, 1 1kW AM station, and 8 low-power FM translators over a 60-mile range STL planning, installation, repair, and maintenance via 950MHz analog links and microwave backhaul IT support for studio automation software, music scheduling software, and commercial scheduling software Ensure operation of the EAS alert system and maintain FCC logs Project management, systems maintenance, and equipment upgrades Coordinate and supervise subcontractors: tower crews, HVAC, electricians, and others as needed Provide and coordinate 24hr emergency response coverage Knowledge, skills, and abilities : Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations Strong computer/IT skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills 5 years broadcasting experience required 5 years as station assistant or Chief Engineer preferred Problem-solving ability and strength in prioritization Experience with operation, maintenance, and repair of both high-powered tube and solid-state transmitters Knowledge of FM IBOC HD theory of operation and functionality Knowledge of satellite programming automation including audio routing and GPIO Knowledge of theory of operation for omnidirectional and direction FM antenna arrays Knowledge of theory of operation for low and high-level RF combining Knowledge of electrical systems, UPS, and standby generators Axia Livewire and AES67 experience preferred RCS Nexgen experience preferred Clean driving record.
