Responsibilities Idaho National Laboratory is seeking an Electrical Safety Instructor responsible for identifying performance-based training requirements for INL electrical crafts and INL electrical safety training programs. Additional duties include providing training and performing practical evaluations for lockout/tagout. Performs various tasks associated with electrical safety training programs including, but not limited to 1)work with SME and AHJ to ensure electrical craft and electrical safety program compliance with internal and external requirements; 2) assisting management with the evaluation of training program effectiveness, 3) publishing an electrical safety newsletter monthly, 4) developing and implementing self-study, classroom, and/or training simulation materials; 5) actively support and participate in external and internal committees (i.e. INL Electrical Safety Committee and EFCOG Electrical Safety) and action teams related to electrical safety.In general, as an Instructor for INL Training Services the incumbent has the following roles and responsibilities:Perform the role of: Course Point of Contact: Complete minor changes to course materials to correct simple errors in lesson plans, supporting teaching aids, and exams. Partner with instructional designers and SMEs to develop/revise training materials to ensure lesson plans, exams, and associated support materials are well designed, up-to-date, repeatable, and meets the needs of students, SMEs, and line management. Partner with instructional designers and ensure evidence-based learning methods are appropriately incorporated into the lesson plan. Ensure an adequate supply of student materials, course supplies, and equipment, organized for ease of use, to support scheduled training. Review lessons learned, procedure changes, and feedback and evaluate their impact and determine if changes are required to improve course materials. Respond to customer comments and questions in a helpful manner.Perform the Role of: Classroom Instructor: Deliver training in accordance with approved course packages. Establish and maintain instructor credibility on course content and presentation skills. Demonstrate effective presentation skills, effective questioning skills, and respond appropriately to learners' needs in the classroom. Use evidence-based learning theories to promote mastery of objectives. Reinforce Lab values and the principles (i.e., ISMS, VPP, Conduct of Operations, and Human Performance) when appropriate. Replenish student materials used (or notify course Point of Contact) and leave classroom clean for next course. Notify POC of any issues related to the applicable training. Be formally evaluated and videotaped in the classroom or during a performance exam at least every 6 months, to improve skills. Support management with "just-in-time" training needs.Perform the Role of: Performance Evaluator: Administer written and practical exams in an unbiased, consistent, and professional manner in accordance with approved instructions. Debrief and address concerns/inadequacies with student and properly report failures. Maintain exam security per procedures.Perform the Role of: INL Training Services Member: Promote safety, work safely, and identify safety concerns and other deficiencies. Apply the lab's Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) as described in Manual 12, to all training requests. Honor training commitments and develop quality training products and services as promised. Input course completion data and submit rosters, exams, and evaluation sheets to records center in a timely manner. Obtain and maintain instructor and other necessary qualifications (i.e., facility access, computer access, etc.) Practice efficient communication methods in the areas of face-to-face requests, phone calls, the use of emails, and text messages. Participate on assigned committees to improve organizational products and services. Participate in individual continuous improvement activities benefitting the organization. Qualifications Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education and/or Experience): Licensed Electrician with minimum 5 years of experience or 13 years of equivalent experience in lieu of a license.Special Requirements and/or Training: Must demonstrate a working knowledge of and commitment to electrical safety procedures, rules, and concepts. Must demonstrate a familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, and be able to learn applicable INL and DOE policies, procedures, and standards. Experience with electrical distribution systems considered a plus. Must be able and willing to work closely with bargaining unit and management personnel. Ability to function independently as well as in teamwork environments, and excellent oral and written communication skills are critical. Basic computer skills in word-processing and other related general office programs are required.Selective Service Requirements To be eligible for employment at INL males born after December 31, 1959--must have registered with the Selective Service System (SSS).
