INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory forDOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstrationcapability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts aunique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers theability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design,development and fabrication through post irradiation analysis. The Nuclear Research Facility Engineer applies engineeringknowledge and expertise to solve applied and operational problems in the areasof R&D for Nuclear Programs, National and Homeland Security, and Energy andEnvironment. The successful candidatewill be the assigned System Engineer for highly specialized electro-mechanicalequipment and measurement instrumentation operated in hot cell environments forthe purpose of irradiated material examination.Main responsibilities:---Provide engineering oversight and technical direction forassigned process systems and equipment which directly support nuclear R&Dand programmatic work at the Materials and Fuels Complex. Also, provides mentoring and guidance toothers in this area.---Perform system engineering for highly specializedinstruments operated in a hot cell environment for the purpose of irradiatedmaterial examination and processing.---Maintains instrument/equipment design basis andconfiguration and provides mentoring and guidance to junior engineers toaccomplish this task.---Ensures appropriate maintenance is performed for assignedinstruments/equipment. ---Collects, assimilates, interprets and then reportstechnical data via numerous media as required to meet programmatic goals. ---Leads team members for development of new techniques andequipment. ---Interacts with other technical personnel as well as missionsupport staff from other organizations. Provides facility leadership to ensure other organizations to ensurefacility design basis is maintained.---Ensures operability by providing expert input to thedevelopment of program proposals, scheduling, and facility workintegration. ---Performs design functions as necessary to support operationand research of assigned instruments/equipment.---Writes and performs qualification and operational tests forassigned instruments/equipment. Providesleadership and management throughout the qualification and testing program.Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) Security ClearanceBachelor's Degree in Engineering and 5-8 years of experience or Master's Degree and 3-6 years. Must be able to become qualified to INL Tech Staff requirements and Rad Worker 1 or 2 trained, as requiredPreferred:Experience with equipment or system engineering, design, and/or testing Selective Service RequirementsTo be eligible for employment at INL males between ages 18 and 25 must register (or must have registered) with the Selective Service System (SSS). This includes U.S. born and naturalized citizens, parolees, undocumented immigrants, legal permanent residents, asylum seekers, refugees, and all males with visas of any kind which expired more than 30 days ago.
