RESPONSIBILITIES

The INL Bioenergy Program is seeking an entry level candidate to assist research and development in areas that encompass harvest, collection, storage, preprocessing, and biochemical/thermochemical characterization of biomass and recycled materials. A technician is needed to perform multiple tasks in a sophisticated biomass process demonstration high bay. This position provides technician support to set up experiments, collect, prepare, track, and receive samples and acquire data in executing projects with a focus on clean bioenergy technologies. This position includes work with the Bioenergy Feedstock Library, in uploading and tracking physical samples and sample data. Tasks include, but are not limited to, materials handling, sample preparation including weighing, grinding, packaging, cataloging, sample analysis including particle size, moisture content and bulk density, equipment maintenance, and duties associated with operating and maintaining research facilities and equipment that routinely handle samples ranging from 10 grams of powdered biomass and recycled materials to1,400 pound bales and supersacks. This position will require substantial outdoor work and extended working hours in all seasons and weather conditions with some need to travel. This position will involve physical labor and may include operation of equipment and machinery, such as forklifts, and work associated with harvest and collection of biomass and recycled materials. The work involves hazards that require mitigation including protective clothing, gloves, eye wear, hearing protection, and respirators. Data entry and manipulation of data within spreadsheets to support research objectives.

This position will require you to:
Perform tasks that apply basic knowledge and skills related to the handling and processing of biomass and recycled materials
Be knowledgeable in performing sample analysis including particle size, moisture content, bulk mass and energy density, flowability, separations, and pellet density and durability.
Apply standard written procedures for assigned tasks and known processes
Extract and compile technical data and documentation as required
Upload sample and process data into BFNUF Biomass Library
Perform routine and non-routine assignments under the supervision of principal investigators, principle researchers, scientists, engineers and other senior technicians at INL and field locations

High School Diploma and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent training is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR TRAINING:
The preferred candidate will have some experience with biomass and/or recycled materials and relevant equipment to process and archive these materials including typical hand tools. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated abilities to follow written procedures, guidelines, and rules as well as documenting work that has been performed.


SELECTIVE SERVICE REQUIREMENTS
