Join us - innovate the future!The Energy Storage and Advanced Transportation Department at INL is seeking for Battery Test Engineer that is looking to join a team passionate advancing the future of electrified transportation by enhancing knowledge related to the life and performance of high energy and high-power batteries.The chosen candidate will advance understanding while maintaining operational excellence while displaying skills in electrical systems, programming, data acquisition and troubleshooting complex systems.The role is responsible for both the testing of batteries and other electrochemical devices as well as the analysis of data and in targeted interactions with sponsors and other industry representatives.Responsibilities: Directly interact with multiple members of the R&D staff including PIs, fellow Battery Test Engineers and laboratory management personnel with excellent communication skills and the ability to follow set protocols and procedures to ensure safety and to ensure high quality data are generated Provide direct input of data which will serve as the basis for sponsor reports, peer reviewed publications and presentations at national conferences As battery technologies evolve and use cases evolve you will be responsible for the development of unique test programs to capture a set of electrical and mechanical data associated with cycling batteries, the preparation of unique cables and test fixtures for testing batteries and the receipt and disposition of batteries Design and integrate unique methods for acquiring and analyzing unique data streams Support multiple groups within the department and directorate as necessary Work to assess performance of batteries and electric vehicle infrastructure under a wide range of applications though set-up and design of experiments including data acquisition, data collection in lab and appropriate data reduction as dictated by project needs Perform activities related to supporting PI tasks including data analysis, development of software tools and methods to further automate testing activities and interface with sponsors, cell manufacturers and others in industry Provide input to PIs, other test engineers, group leads and department managers for the preparation of reports, peer reviewed manuscripts and presentations and provide input on the functionality of test equipment and needs-- Qualifications Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria: Hold a minimum of a BA/BS in electronics, engineering or related scientific field Have demonstrated experience in electronics Have demonstrated experience using design and analysis programs such as ORCAD, CAD, MatLab, Python and Labview Have experience designing, developing, and/or conducting experiments with electrical equipment Desire to learn and adapt to new roles and opportunitiesThe ideal candidate will meet the following criteria: Understanding or diagnostic experience with controller area networks 2-5 years' experience Experience and knowledge of batteries, electric vehicle charging and infrastructure Experience and knowledge of data analysis In depth understanding of electrical and electronics theory Basic understanding of wireless communication Basic understanding of wireless energy transfer Experience working with high voltage equipment Selective Service RequirementsTo be eligible for employment at INL males between ages 18 and 25 must register (or must have registered) with the Selective Service System (SSS).
