Join us - innovate the future!The National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) was recently established at INL to accelerate private-sector demonstration of advanced reactors. As part of the broader national strategy to expand nuclear energy markets for U.S. commercial suppliers, NRIC will play a key role in de-risking technology and informing national regulatory policy through nuclear reactor demonstration and testing campaigns. NRIC is the nation's principal program to provide the capability to build and demonstrate advanced reactors and is a critical element in achieving INL's vision to change the world's energy future.NRIC at INL is seeking an Engineer to support its mission of enabling the demonstration of private-sector nuclear reactor concepts. An ideal candidate will possess the ability to work closely with other INL organizations, facilities, operations and business professionals to drive projects, ensure cost effective execution, and timely completion. The NRIC Engineer will be working to minimize the time required to build and operate novel reactor concepts. This may include coordinating experimental campaigns using existing DOE facilities, developing new facilities and/or capabilities to enable testing and demonstration, ensuring the availability and production of fuel for reactor demonstrations, and preparing sites for operational demonstration reactors. This position is a key role in the execution of infrastructure investments necessary to carry out future testing and demonstration campaigns. Responsibilities: Engage with private-sector nuclear reactor developers and providers, working closely with federal stakeholders (DOE, DOD, and others), and coordinating among INL operations, research and business organizations to execute advanced nuclear systems testing and demonstration campaigns at the INLProvide project management and engineering oversight and direction for the planning, execution, and follow-on data dissemination from testing and demonstration campaigns.Direct engineering projects related to upgrading existing facilities, constructing new facilities to include planning, budgeting, procuring and managing projectsAssess operational and infrastructure needs of commercial and government stakeholders for testing and demonstration of nuclear reactor and related systemsSupport and lead planning, permitting, siting, regulatory authorization, and operations processes for INL assets for nuclear reactor and related research, demonstration and testingProvide assistance in assessing and coordinating with national assets at other federal sites necessary for nuclear reactor and related systems and components research, demonstration, and testingProvide assistance in developing research, engineering, and operations teams to help stakeholders meet their technology deployment goals through testing and demonstrationSynthesize lessons-learned from testing and demonstration campaigns to propose and implement new best-practices, including operations, business, research, testing and demonstration infrastructure improvementsLeading collaboration efforts with high-level government, academic and private industry partnersApplies expertise and judgement to select methods and techniques required to evaluate project criteria Qualifications Degree in an engineering field with combination of degree and years experience in performing relevant work: BS with minimum--8 years experienceMS with minimum--6 years experiencePhD with minimum--4 years experience Experience in the leadership and execution of engineering projects involving the construction and operation of nuclear (or similar) facilities with at least 4 years of experience of engineering management and/or leadership experience.Position requires specialized and extraordinary skill, and existing relationships, with highly complex and technical elements of NASA, DOD and other government agenciesRecord of driving engineering projects and overcoming engineering barriers and challenges and working with a range of disciplines to achieve success.Successful interactions with private sector, national lab, and government organizations and experience testing and demonstrating energy-related technologies at a relevant scale are preferred.Must have experience leading highly visible and complex projects where application of functional and industry expertise is required to achieve successful outcome.
