INL is seeking to hire a talented Nuclear Instrumentation Engineer!
This position contributes to research, development and deployment
(RD&D) activities of the INL Measurement Science Department,
within INL s Nuclear Science & Technology (NS&T)
* Perform work in a team-oriented environment with the ability to
communicate effectively, manage time independently, and to work
collaboratively with peers are considered essential functions for
* Actively engage with the Department Manager in implementing
professional development plans, maintaining capabilities and
qualifications as well as reporting workplace concerns.
* Follow the complete life-cycle of the development of
instrumentation for nuclear applications, including: assessment of
customer requirements for end application (for example, irradiation
test or advanced reactor demonstration facility), selection of
applicable methods and measurement techniques, design of
measurement system, fabrication and test of instrumentation for
performance demonstration, data analysis and sensor performance
modeling, support to deployment in customer end application.
* Interfaces effectively with technicians and professionals within
INL as well as external collaborators.
* Independently determine and develop creative approaches to solve
problems of diverse scope with only general direction.
* Provide essential contribution to the development of research
plans and the preparation of documents necessary to seek and
maintain necessary funding for its implementation, as well as
documents aimed at protecting INL intellectual properties, when
* Perform experimental activities in compliance with INL work
controls and customer quality requirements and complements them
with scientific and engineering analysis as necessary to meet the
final objectives. They communicate research results in reports,
peer review publications, and through the participation in meetings
and technical conferences.
* Interface with laboratory technicians and early career peers
providing guidelines and mentoring for the execution of
instrumentation fabrication and testing activities.
* Interface extensively with peers from internal organizations
involved in the instrumentation development life cycle, such as
test designers and facilities operators.
* Interface with external collaborators and peers in related
disciplines, contributing to establish INL technical leadership in
the area of nuclear instrumentation development at the national
* Degree in Nuclear, Electrical or other relevant engineering
discipline with additional professional experience in areas related
to nuclear instrumentation development.
* BS and 2 yrs experience
* MS and 1 yr experience
* Demonstrated knowledge experience in the area of nuclear reactor
instrumentation, controls and sensors and their integration into
the design and operation of reactor systems and experiments.
* Experience performing in a team-oriented environment with ability
to communicate effectively, manage time independently, and work
collaboratively with peers.
* Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
