Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Nuclear Science and Technology (NS&T) Irradiation Experiment Neutronics Analysis group is seeking forward-thinking, professionals interested in exploring a technical career as Nuclear Engineer/Neutronics Analyst will focus on neutronics and reactor physics calculations for irradiation experiment design and operation in the Transient Reactor Test Facility (TREAT), the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR), and other nuclear research and test reactors. The Nuclear Engineer/Neutronics Analyst should have a strong background in neutron transport and reactor kinetics with demonstrated experience using MCNP, ORIGEN, and SCALE to model the irradiation of nuclear fuels and materials under varied nuclear conditions. Practical experience using nuclear safety basis knowledge and documents is highly desired. Computer programming skills and high performance computing experience is also highly desired. Responsibilities Include:

  • Appyling physics and engineering theories and concepts to solve problems and performing detailed neutronics and reactor physics calculations and analyses of irradiation experiments for INL customers.
  • Being a key participant within an interdisciplinary project team and work effectively both alone and as a team member, be self-motivated and willing to take direction from team members and peers and maintain currency in relevant engineering and scientific literature, prepare internal reports and peer-reviewed publications, and present research results at conferences and meetings. Minimum Requirements:
    • Masters degree in nuclear science/engineering/physics (or similar discipline) plus 3 year relevant experience or Doctorate degree in nuclear science/engineering/physics (or similar discipline) with 2 year relevant experience.
    • Demonstrated experience in nuclear modeling, physics, and reactor engineering analysis.
    • Demonstrated experience using MCNP.
    • Demonstrated experience in python.
    • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Requirements:
      • Advanced degree.
      • Demonstrated experience using SCALE or ORIGEN.
      • Experience with transient irradiation experiment design and analysis. Computer code benchmarking and validation experience.
      • Working knowledge of software development.
      • Experience in data analysis.
      • Experience in java.
