Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Materials and Fuels Complex.group is seeking forward-thinking, professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a Nuclear Research Facility Engineer. The Nuclear Research Facility Engineer applies engineering knowledge, practice and techniques to solve applied and operational problems in the areas of R&D for Nuclear Programs, National and Homeland Security, and Energy and Environment. The successful candidate will be the assigned as a Design/System Engineer for highly specialized instruments (electro-mechanical equipment and measurement instrumentation) operated in hot cell environments for the purpose of irradiated material examination. Responsibilities Include: Provide engineering oversight and technical direction for assigned process systems and equipment which directly support nuclear R&D and programmatic work at the Materials and Fuels Complex

  • Perform design engineering for highly specialized equipment/instruments operated in a hot cell environment for the purpose of irradiated material examination and processing
  • Maintains equipment/ instrument design basis and configuration
  • Writes and performs qualification and operational tests for assigned instruments/equipment
  • Develops innovative ways to perform tasks/activities in a remote environment
  • Interacts with Researchers to develop equipment/systems to accomplish research activities
  • Supports maintenance activities for assigned equipment/instruments
  • Collects, assimilates, interprets, and then reports technical data via numerous media as required to meet programmatic goals
  • Acts as a team member supporting and coordinating ongoing tasks
  • Influence programmatic direction with sound opinions on technical issues
  • Interacts with other technical personnel as well as mission support staff from other organizations
  • Contributes to the development of new capabilities and intellectual property
  • Performs system engineering functions as necessary to support operation and research of assigned instruments/equipment
  • Performs tasks with oversight from senior staff members and management Minimum Requirements: Level 2 or 3:
    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or other related field with 2-5 years of experience
    • OR a Master of Science Degree in Engineering and 1-3 year of experience
    • Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE clearance.
    • Must be, or become qualified to INL Tech Staff requirements.
    • Must be, or become rad worker 1 or 2 trained, as required. Job Information
