The Security Engineering unit at the Naval Reactors Facility is responsible for the implementation, improvement, and maintenance of critical stand-alone and networked engineered security systems. These systems include, but are not limited to, various camera monitoring technologies, intrusion detection and alarms, access control, and biometric verification. Duties of the Security Engineer require developing, deploying, and life cycle support of engineered security solutions for the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. The Security Engineer will function as part of a multi-discipline, multi-site engineering team in both lead and support roles for multiple projects. They will perform engineering evaluations and analyses, troubleshooting assessments and potential repairs, and make engineering decisions for the critical engineering security systems. A working knowledge of security systems and in multiple faces of engineering, including electrical, computer/networking, and mechanical is desired.
Responsibilities of the Security Engineer include:
Being the cognizant engineer/system expert for assigned security systems.
Implementing solutions using project planning to achieve security objectives.
Occasionally performing "hands-on" work with engineered security systems.
Providing proactive leadership to address legacy systems, develop process improvements, and maintain historical knowledge.
Applying system knowledge to technical and operational problem solving.
Work planning to accomplish major projects to meet project and schedule requirements. This also includes aligning resources, identifying risks, and preparing mitigations plans - all to meet project milestones.
Preparing cost estimates, scheduled, and performance measures.
Communicating, as necessary, to ensure customer and management understanding of project status.
BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years relevant experience; or
MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university
BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years relevant experience; or
MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years relevant experience
Job Preferred Skills
Degree in electrical engineering
Demonstrated working experience with the design, installation, and management of security systems.
Demonstrated working experience with computer networking, Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems, patch management of systems, LAN switch operations, LAN troubleshooting techniques, and basic computer programming.
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office, Project, and Visio (or AutoCAD).
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and teaming skills.
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated project planning experience.
