Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Quality Engineer to
join the Procurement and Construction Team. This position will
provide Quality Engineering expertise establishing quality
assurance objectives, assist with setting organizational priorities
and reporting to management regarding quality assurance issues
pertaining to operational/construction quality assurance. This
position provides the organization an opportunity to enable the
success of the Laboratory and Battelle enterprise mission, vision,
and goals. Develop, maintain expertise and convey quality assurance
information to the INL, particularly focusing on issues related to
construction and nuclear quality assurance.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Function as a Quality Engineer (QE) to generally support the
function of oversight of Construction Management and Subcontractors
work performance as a representative of the INL.
- Enable work by assuring quality requirements and initiatives are
identified, understood, planned and implemented.
- Establish priorities and interfaces with various levels of
management and staff.
- Assure compliance with laboratory, corporate, and DOE quality
requirements while implementing the INL graded approach, applying
the appropriate level of effort where warranted and eliminating
- Review various documents, requisitions, design documents, codes,
standards, procurement documents, quality assurance programs, etc.
for compliance with established QA requirements.
All work will be conducted in accordance with INL procedures,
independently, with little oversight.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION AND/OR
BS degree in Engineering plus 5 years experience or MS degree in
Engineering and 3 years experience or PhD and 2 years.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L clearance. SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS AND/OR TRAINING:
Must be able to qualify as an INL Quality Engineer within 6 months.
Should have a complete understanding and wide application of
quality engineering roles and functions. Mechanical Engineering
degree and experience in Project Management is preferred. Must have
some experience in nuclear power plants, manufacturing, steel
fabrication, welding, QC Inspection, nondestructive and destructive
examination. Must have knowledge of implementation experience with
ASME NQA-1, DOE QA Orders and other Codes and Standards invoked by
the INL QA program. Must be able to effectively interface with INL
project personnel and may interact with DOE personnel. Must be an
excellent and effective communicator. Must have excellent oral and
written presentation skills. Must have a good understanding and
knowledge of quality concepts and practices and be thoroughly
familiar with codes, standards, and regulations such as ACI, AISC,
ASTM, ASME, and AWS as they apply to various types of construction
work activities. Hands on experience in general commercial
construction (soils, concrete, structural, piping, shop fabrication
and field erection).Travel between projects will be required. Core
competencies for this position are communication, problem solving,
adaptability, judgment, collaboration, and decision making.
