Responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of the
Service Department. Advises and makes recommendations to the
supervisor with respect to the best interest of the Service
Department whenever and wherever activities of the company and
customers are involved.Essential Job Functions:1. Develops
reasonable annual objectives for the Service Department to include
expected billings for labor based on sales estimates (shop work
distinguished from field work), rental contracts and used equipment
sales. Develops markets for Service Department abilities.2.
Considers the type of service to be performed, equipment and space
required, skills needed, and makes recommendations to company
management concerning such requirements. Selects and hires
personnel as needed.3. Provides the proper records, reports and
procedures are established concerning all service work performed;
maintains proper division of time and overtime devoted to customer
equipment vs. company-owned equipment, housekeeping, cleanup,
testing and inspection.4. Insures that necessary shop tools and
equipment are available and maintained in good order; that new
machines and machines going out on demo are clean and in
ready-to-go condition; that follow-up service is conducted as
required in line with factory warranty.5. Organizes and conducts
training programs and service meetings for own and customer
personnel, either as a company function or in conjunction with
manufacturers' service representatives.6. Periodically evaluates
the performance of the Service Department against planned
objectives, reports from customers, the Sales Department and
competitors, and makes changes as necessary.7. Cooperates with the
Sales Department in evaluating used equipment for trade in;
performs emergency service work, assists in setting up equipment at
shows, exhibits, conventions and demonstrations.8. Maintains
working relations with Parts management and Parts Department
personnel and sees that proper procedures, records and reports
concerning parts for service are in order.9. Makes recommendations
regarding the purchase of service vehicles, maintains the fleet in
proper mechanical condition and supervises the economical use of
vehicles in the performance of service work. Requires discipline in
shop housekeeping and service practices.10. Reviews salary and
compensation plans for Service personnel and makes recommendations
for changes as appropriate.11. Performs employee performance
reviews12. Sees that service literature, instruction manuals,
catalogs and factory communications pertaining to the Service
Department are properly maintained, current and brought to the
attention of Service personnel when appropriate.13. Performs
required administrative details such as preparing reports,
estimates and forecasts, maintains warranty records, initiates
campaigns designed to increase the profit of the Service
Department.14. Maintain compliance with the Department of
Transportation regulations. Trains, delegates, and reports on the
areas of compliance as required by the law. EDUCATION,
CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's or
Associate's degree with equivalent experience of three (3)+ years -
Five (5)+ additional years of experience in the service operations
of the heavy equipment industry in lieu of Bachelor's degree will
be considered - Appropriate John Deere, Wirtgen, Manitowoc training
and certifications or comparable machinery to support the specific
market needs - Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, self-motivations
and communication skills required - Excellent verbal and written
communication skills - Proven ability to effectively manage and
motivate staff with previous management experience - Good computer
and systems knowledgeCompensation:Base salary plus annual benefit
program and discretionary bonus opportunityWork Environment: Office
environment, daily shop walk through, and occasional field reviews
