Nuclear Science and Technology group is seeking forward-thinking
professionals interested in exploring a career as a Nuclear Science
and Technology Directorate Chief Scientist.Our team works an
on-site 9x80 schedule located at our Research Education Campus with
every other Friday off!Responsibilities Include:The Nuclear Science
and Technology directorate (NS&T) Chief Scientist is a widely
recognized expert and leader in nuclear science and technology
research and development and a senior scientific leader at INL. The
Chief Scientist advises the NS&T associate Laboratory director
(ALD) on scientific and technical strategy informing areas of
research, establishment of capabilities, and on investments. The
Chief Scientist also coordinates with other INL Directorate chief
science officers on cross-cutting research and forward-looking
initiatives.Responsibilities include:Provide a technical vision and
leadership in the development of technology breakthroughs,
technical solutions, and capabilitiesDrive research and innovation
advancing the scientific achievement of the directorate and setting
new research directions to result in profound RD&D impacts that
advance nuclear technologiesProvide insight and knowledge on
advanced nuclear energy to identify areas of national interest
where NS&T can supply, impact, and expand marketsSupply to
strategic planning activities, including identifying, evaluating,
and developing critical NS&T research capabilities and
developing investment strategies directed toward increasing
laboratory impactDevelop collaborations with industry and leading
nuclear universities and laboratories, and ensures partnerships are
established to enhance and expand R&D opportunitiesAttract
exceptional scientists and engineers and serve as a mentor to
early- and mid-career staff, with an emphasis on support career
development and support to underrepresented groupsServes as
technical expert liaison with the Department of Energy, other
organizations, and groups and senior leadership within INL on
critical outcomes and initiativesResponsible for continuous
improvement in the trust and quality of research data generated
within NS&T. Participate as a member of the Office of Science
Council (SC Council), which is coordinated by the Research
Excellence Director and reports to the Deputy Laboratory Director
for S&TParticipate in working groups related to the Research
Excellence Culture Initiative, coordinated by the Research
Excellence DirectorCoordinate university interactions (for
awareness and common strategy) with the Directors/staff of the
National University Programs office and also Idaho University
Collaborations and CAES -Qualifications -Minimum Requirements:A PhD
in Nuclear Engineering or related scientific or engineering field
and at least 15 years relevant experience is requiredAbility to
communicate complex concepts orally; prepare written reports and
technical publications that are clear, concise, and
meaningfulAbility to work with employees, management, advisory
councils, and DOE to resolve complex technical issues and develop
impactful strategies and executable plansThis position requires the
ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q"
clearance, which requires US CitizenshipPreferred

desirableJob Information:Salary Grade: 250 ($156,216 - $265,548)/
260 ($179,640 - $305,388)Chosen applicants are required to show a
