The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking applicants for a Computer Software Engineer reporting to the MFC Computer Engineering Department Manager.
INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.
The Computer Software Engineer supports MFC nuclear facilities and programs with software engineering skills to provide computer, electronic, instrumentation, control system, software, and electrical engineering support in the form of software design and development, installation and test procedure preparation, system surveillance and equipment troubleshooting. This role will specifically support the implementation of a laboratory information management system (LIMS) which provides comprehensive sample management lifecycle in a fully regulated environment.
Designs, codes, tests, corrects and documents large and/or complex programs and program modifications from supplied specifications using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.
Leads in software development in VisualBasic, C, C , Angular, C#/.Net, Perl, or Ruby applications.
Selects and uses tools and methods to establish, clarify and communicate the user experience, users characteristics and tasks, and identifies the technical, organizational and physical environment in which complex products or systems will operate.
Utilizes MS SQL database in application development and maintains knowledge of database concepts, object and data modeling techniques and design principles and a detailed knowledge of database architectures, software and stored procedures.
Acts as a team leader supporting and coordinating ongoing tasks. Influence programmatic direction with sound opinions on technical issues.
Expected to lead, plan and perform complex cutting edge and unique tasks while providing deliverables within schedule.
Takes part in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues work.
Recommends/designs structures and tools for systems which meet business needs.
Leads the completion of complex application development and quality delivery adhering to NQA1 software quality controls.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: B.S. Degree in Computer Science or other technical related field with 5-8 years of experience or M.S. Degree and 3-6 years of experience.
Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE "L" clearance. Must be capable of obtaining a Labware LIMS Administrator certification within (1) year.
Experience developing in any of the following: VisualBasic, C, C , C#/.Net, Perl, or Ruby applications
Experienced utilizing MS SQL databases in application development
Skilled in the development of MS SQL stored procedures
Solid understanding of database concepts and design principles
Experience mentoring others and leading technical tasks.
Ability to be a strong team player and effectively organize and lead tasks.
Ability to communicate with both business and technical audiences.
Technical understanding of the design requirements, system performance criteria, design, operation, testing and maintenance of Labware Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Must be knowledgeable of NQA-1 Software Quality Requirements.
SharePoint development experience
Web Presentation Foundation (WPF) experience
Project management experience
