Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) National and Homeland Security (N&HS) Science and Technology Directorate is seeking a Chief Scientist. In this role you will provide scientific and strategic leadership for INL's mission, and serve as a senior adviser to the Associate Lab Director (ALD) in achieving overall directorate objectives. Responsibilities Include:

• Understanding the full scope of N&HS work and ensure alignment between N&HS strategic objectives and the laboratory's strategic/scientific objectives.
• Ensuring that N&HS delivers quality, relevant and impactful research and development and crafts a compelling description of N&HS accomplishments to advance the standing, recognition, performance evaluation and branding of the Laboratory.
• Facilitating the production of key reports and publications, ensuring high quality and consistency.
• Leading initiatives to increase the quality and rate of publications, including classified publications, that present new insights and techniques of leaders with vision in N&HS mission areas.
• Acting as a highly effective asset to N&HS leadership in ensuring that INL core competencies and capabilities are developed and applied in effective and innovative ways to address national challenges.
• Helping implement the ALD's vision for creating and sustaining world class R&D capabilities in key mission areas such as control and cyber-physical system security, nuclear nonproliferation, and defense systems.
• Assisting in the recruitment of qualified researchers. Establishing and monitoring appropriate and effective mentoring activities for inexperienced staff.
• Proactively leading the effective management of the Lab Directed Research & Development (LDRD) portfolio. Minimum Requirements:
  
  • PhD in a science, engineering, or national security subject area and at least 15 years' relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Experience in working with DOE, universities, industry, and other external entities.
  • Experience in other INL mission areas is highly desired. Job Information
