The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking candidates for the Post-Irradiation Examination (PIE) Division operations staff reporting to the Hot Fuels Examination Facility (HFEF) Nuclear Facility Manager. If you want to be part of enabling nuclear energy research and development, including deployment of next generation nuclear reactors then this position is for you.
INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for the United States Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment.
MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development and fabrication, and post irradiation analysis. MFC is plays a pivotal role in supporting the National Reactor Innovation Center, which provides resources for testing, demonstration, and performance assessment to accelerate the deployment of new, advanced nuclear technology concepts.
As a key point of contact for the facility, the PIE Division Operations staff member is responsible to complete a variety of operational tasks and assignments. Working under direction of more senior staff, regularly communicates with PIE leadership team involving progress, issues, provides recommendations and solutions for a variety of complex activities. Key functions of the role include:
* Responsible for the management of PIE Division issues including resolving corrective actions, participating in, and writing up event investigations, leading critiques/fact findings, assisting with causal analysis and other issues management related duties as assigned.
* Participate in the coordination of facility maintenance work activities. Interface with facility work planners and schedulers to ensure people, parts, and paper are ready to complete work.
* Participate as a member of the team and engage in execution of complex facility projects and follow from planning through completion.
* Partner with research planning group and ensure research project tasks and scope are completed as scheduled to meet commitments as communicated to research programs.
* Participate in self and organizations assessments of safety protocols and implementation on equipment and facility personnel.
* Responsible to manage complex facility budgets and ensure activities are planned in planning tool and variances are clearly understood and communicated with appropriate leadership. Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors' Degree in Science preferably in a technical field and 2 years relevant experience. Relevant experience includes working in industrial, commercial, nuclear or high-consequence environment.
    * Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE "L" clearance. Preferred Skills:
    * Be able to track and manage complex systems, schedules and/or budgets.
