The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking candidates for Senior Systems Engineer in support of multiple National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) programs. The position provides an opportunity work with an experienced, interdisciplinary team to develop unique systems to meet challenging requirements on dynamic development programs. INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. NRIC builds the next generation nuclear testing services for the Idaho National Lab. We work with customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in Advanced Reactor Development Programs. Our team focuses on testbed development to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. This position works all facets of engineering from technology concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments. The Senior Systems Engineer applies engineering knowledge, practice and techniques to solve applied and operational problems in the areas of Reactor Development, R&D for Nuclear Programs, National and Homeland Security, and Energy and Environment. The successful candidate will be the assigned as a Systems Engineer for NRIC. Responsibilities Include:

  • Define a facility and mission systems architecture in compliance with DOE requirements and mission needs across various technologies
  • Develop top level system performance specifications for a nuclear system test bed facility
  • Perform analyses and trades in support of design and development for a nuclear system test bed
  • Develop the interface structure and integration requirements between INL and various reactor development programs
  • Develop and flow requirements to the mission system teams
  • Analyze, verify, and validate performance of system designs
  • Decompose subsystem level requirements from system level requirements
  • Develop use cases and sequence diagrams
  • Define, monitor, and track interfaces (ICD)/(IDD) Minimum Requirements:
    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, physics, chemistry or other related field with 5-8 years of experience or a Master of Science Degree in Engineering and 3-6 year of experience.
    • Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to acquire and maintain a DOE clearance.
    • Must be, or become qualified to INL Tech Staff requirements.
    • Must be, or become rad worker 1 or 2 trained, as required. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
      • Experience with nuclear systems design, operations, and disposal
      • Experience in the development, build and test of nuclear test facilities or nuclear reactors
      • Experience with agile development processes and methods
      • Experience in a dynamic digital engineering environment
      • Experience with PLM, CAD, MBSE, and Requirements Management tools and activities
      • Prior history working in a digital systems environment
      • Familiarity with collaboration tools (Confluence, Sharepoint, etc.)
      • Experience with Requirements Engineering/Management
      • Familiarity with INCOSE, NASA, or DOD Systems Engineering processes
      • Familiarity with PMI or PRINCE processes Job Information
