If so, we might have just the opportunity you're looking for!Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Mission Support/Assurance group is seeking forward-thinking, professionals interested in exploring a career as a Lead Nuclear Safety Inspector!The Nuclear Safety Inspector Lead will perform in-depth nuclear safety (NS) regulatory inspections, advise and assist the Laboratory Directors, and INL senior management on issues that pertain to operations. This individual will also develop, handle, and maintain relationships with Department of Energy (DOE-ID), DOE-HQ, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), other national laboratories/peer groups, nuclear agencies, senior management, and facility operations. This team member will serve on and/or lead nuclear safety teams establishing nuclear safety objectives, setting priorities, and advising senior management regarding NS operations issues. The Lead NS Inspector has a significant impact on Laboratory and Battelle enterprise mission, vision, and goals. They will also:Provide leadership establishing the INL as a leader in Nuclear Safety Operations and provides insight on NS programs to help develop corporate governance initiatives that further INL and Battelle's holistic NS programs.Develop, maintain expertise, and convey nuclear safety information to INL, particularly focusing on issues related to NS operations and fostering the safe and efficient development of new nuclear reactor programs.Organize, chair, or present at national nuclear safety meetings, participate as a subject matter authority on committees, develop and implement NS controls, procedures and processes that implement DOE requirements.Capitalize on nuclear industry standards and regulatory guides.Implementation of NS controls will include active participation in strategy development for the Office of Nuclear Assurance (ONA) to establish the baseline for scope, cost, and schedule for the ONA.Additional responsibilities include identifying and developing performance trends through utilization of line organization's corrective action documentation, event reports, incident reports, and other applicable source documents.Maintaining awareness of INPO lessons learned documentation and NRC information notices in the areas of both equipment and human performance is an expectation of this position.Develop metrics to assess NS performance, inspection procedures, assessments, support for preparation of nuclear safety standards and other duties as assigned by the manager of ONA. These organizational operating guidelines and inspection procedures are based on the standard methodologies and requirements from the DOE, NRC, and INPO.This position establishes objectives, sets priorities, develops and maintains effective dialog with facility operations, supporting organizations, and DOE field office/headquarters personnel. It provides resources as subject matter expertise in strategic areas to facilitate accomplishment of the Laboratory's mission in an effective and efficient manner, as determined by the ONA Manager.Minimum Requirements:Bachelors degree plus 13 years' experience, or an advanced degree plus 9 years' experience associated with nuclear materials, nuclear power plant operations, maintenance, testing that demonstrates knowledge of basic nuclear technology, operating safety procedures, radiological safety, codes, or standards. (Nuclear experience must have been gained through commercial, government, or military experience.)Extensive contact with INPO, DOE-HQ, DOE-ID, senior management, facility operations, and nuclear agencies.US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q security clearance.Preferred Requirements:Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.NRC, commercial nuclear plant operations or engineering management, or regulatory oversight experience.Job InformationSalary Grade: 230INL Overview:INL is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's mission in nuclear energy research, science, and national defense.
