DescriptionDoes a career focused on changing the world's energy future intrigue you? If so, we might have just the opportunity you're looking for! The Architectural Historian is responsible for managing historic properties, objects, and landscapes within the built environment of INL in compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), along with preserving the historic record of the INL through oral history and heritage documentation. Responsibilities Include:

  • Acts as Principal Investigator (PI) on INL Cultural Resource Management Office (CRMO) projects for historic properties in the built environment
  • Subject Matter expert (SME) / Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) for cultural resource review of projects and undertakings for INL
  • NHPA process and compliance
  • Conducts research and produces written contexts and reports to document the cultural and scientific history of INL
  • Applies knowledge of federal laws, regulations, state law, DOE orders, professional standards and a broad knowledge of INL built environment, land use, and history.
  • NHPA Section 106 compliance for INL historic properties in the built environment, including survey, analysis, and report completion QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
    • Master's degree in architectural history, historic preservation, or related field.
    • Meets Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Architectural History
    • Minimum of 4 years of full-time experience in cultural resource management relevant to the built environment and historic architectural properties;
    • Minimum 2 years full-time experience as a PI;
    • Experience / working knowledge related to NHPA Section 106 and Section 110 process and compliance as pertains to the built environment and historic objects;
    • Knowledge of NEPA process as associated with Section 106 of NHPA; NRHP documentation and nomination process; HABS/HAER/HALS documentation; architectural survey and inventory process; CRM standards;
    • Valid driver's license
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L clearance. Job Information
