The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking early- to mid-career individuals to enhance its clean energy integration, power systems development, and modeling capabilities as a Distributed Energy Power Systems Engineer! This role will:

  • Provide support to the wind, hydropower, solar, and power systems integration technologies staff in research, design, and development of resource assessments, and perform renewable and classical power systems analyses.
  • Support micro-grid to full-scale grid demonstrations, research and development.
  • Help coordinate, analyze, and deliver model results to technical staff, group leads, and external collaborators.
  • Prepare and contribute to design analyses and developments, technical reports, publications, and presentations at national technical meetings and project evaluations with program sponsors.
  • Support INL Systems Analysis and Integration Department leadership in meeting DOE/DOD/industry customer expectations, landmarks and results, and INL internal reporting metrics.
  • Become familiar and align with all relevant health and safety requirements, emergency action policies and procedures, methods for reporting/resolving work practices or conditions to available cognizant professionals and performing all work in an environmentally safe and compliant manner.
  • Require the ability to obtain and maintain at least an L clearance to support work with the Departments of Energy, Department of Defense, and Homeland Security.
  • This position may involve some work outside normal office hours and some travel. EES&T's role and mission is to develop and advance clean, smart and secure energy systems essential to national security, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability. It embodies science and engineering functions that contribute enabling technologies for today's national energy portfolio. It also augments the country's technical ability to collaborate on and overcome critical energy and water challenges that already impact tomorrow's energy choices. This position supports and integrates actions, activities, projects, & initiatives of the EES&T Directorate's Integrated Mission Plan and other INL research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) efforts. Minimum Requirements:
    • Level 1: B.S in Engineering
    • Level 2: B.S. in Engineering and 2 years experience Preferred Requirements:
      • BS degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or comparable degree.
      • Good communication skills
      • Proactive and flexible when working in a dynamic R&D environment
      • Willingness to seek opportunities to learn new skills
