Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Mission Support/Assurance group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a Lead Nuclear Safety Inspector! The Lead Nuclear Safety Inspector will perform in-depth nuclear safety regulatory inspections. Responsibilities Include:

  • Advise and assist Laboratory Director, Laboratory Deputy Directors, and INL senior management on laboratory and national issues that pertain to Nuclear Safety Operations.
  • Develop, lead, and maintain strategic relationships with Department of Energy (DOE)-ID, DOE-HQ, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), laboratories/peer groups, agencies, senior management, and facility operations.
  • Serve on and/or lead nuclear safety teams establishing safety objectives, setting priorities, and advising senior management regarding safety operations issues.
  • Provide leadership establishing the INL and provide insight to help develop governance initiatives that further INL and Battelle's nuclear safety programs.
  • Develop, maintain expertise, and convey nuclear safety information to the INL, particularly focusing on issues and furthering the safe and efficient development of new nuclear reactor programs.
  • Perform duties as a Nuclear Safety expert.
  • Organize, chair, or present at national nuclear safety meetings.
  • Participate as a technical/professional guide on national or peer-review committees.
  • Develop and implement nuclear safety regulatory controls, procedures and processes that implement DOE requirements, but capitalize on nuclear industry standards and regulatory guides.
  • Implementation of the nuclear safety controls will include active participation in strategy development for the Office of Nuclear Assurance (ONA) to establish the baseline for scope, cost, and schedule for the ONA. Minimum Requirements:
    • Level 4: Bachelors degree and 8 years work experience or Advanced degree plus 6 years work experience. Experience must be associated with nuclear materials and/or nuclear power plant operations, maintenance, and testing.
    • Level 5: Bachelors degree plus 13 years work experience or Advanced degree plus 8 years work experience associated with nuclear materials and/or nuclear power plant operations, maintenance, and testing.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship required.
    • Knowledge of basic nuclear technology, operating safety procedures, radiological safety, codes, and standards.
    • Commercial, government, or military nuclear experience.
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills as requires extensive contact with INPO, DOE-HQ, DOE-ID, senior management, facility operations, and other nuclear agencies. Preferred Requirements:
