The Used Fuel Management group at INL is seeking a skilled engineer
for the used fuel program. The Spent Fuel Analyst contributes
expertise to a broad range of spent fuel related projects,
including but not limited to: DOE's National Reactor Innovation
Center program, other DOE-led advanced reactor deployment programs,
and industry/vendor collaborations. This expertise might include
the areas of facility design, package design and licensing support,
spent fuel behavior analysis, future waste form development and
management solutions, and spent fuel systems analysis.
- Contribute to the development of storage, transportation, and
disposition options for spent fuels from advanced and
first-of-a-kind nuclear reactors.
- Support the characterization and investigation of historic
spent fuels for applicability to future advanced reactor spent fuel
- Publish work in various customer-required reports as well as
peer-reviewed journal publications.
- Involved in the preparation, peer review, and delivery of
program plans, oral presentations, and other activities related to
INL spent fuel programs and projects.
- Work effectively both independently and as a member of a

- MS in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Civil
Engineering, Physics or related discipline plus 3 years relevant
experience; OR PhD in same plus 2 years relevant experience.
Preference for PhD.
- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q
clearance; therefore US Citizenship is required.
- Requires in-depth knowledge of used/spent fuel generation,
characterization, and modelling and analysis.
- Broad understanding of advanced reactor fuel design and
operational concepts is highly preferred.
- Project management experience and strong leadership skills are

fuel storage installations, spent fuel pools, canister/cask
handling procedures) and technologies (e.g., canister and cask
