The Used Fuel Management department within INL's Nuclear Science &
Technology (NS&T) directorate is seeking a skilled technical
professional to fill the position of Spent Fuel Analyst.
The position requires understanding of used/spent fuel generation,
characterization, and modeling and analysis. In addition, an
understanding of spent fuel facilities (e.g., independent spent
fuel storage installations, spent fuel pools, canister/cask
handling procedures), packages (e.g., storage, transportation), and
technologies (e.g., canister and cask design system design,
canister and cask closure options, drying technologies,
repair/mitigation alternatives) is highly desirable.
The individual will be expected to contribute expertise to a broad
range of spent fuel related projects, including but not limited to:
DOE-NEs Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition program, DOE-EMs
Technology Development activities, and industry/vendor
collaborations. Specifically, the individual will be involved in
technology review and development to package spent fuel in a
canister-based storage and transportation system. They will publish
their work in various customer-required reports as well as
peer-reviewed journal publications.
Further, involvement in the preparation, peer review, and delivery
of program plans, oral presentations, and other activities related
to INL spent fuel programs and projects will be expected. The
individual is expected to work effectively both independently and
as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and must be able to take
direction from other team members and peers and provide input in a
constructive manner, even under pressures and tight deadlines.
